Fabric and Accessibility Standards
Web accessibility standards are critical to creating an inclusive experience for all potential users of Alation, and any other web-based products.
Fabric is in compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA standards.
Colors and Contrast
Colors for all text, headers, and graphic elements should be chosen carefully so that they can still be legible and distinct, even to those with limited visual acuity. See standard Fabric colors.
Text Contrast and WCAG 2.0
Follow WCAG 2.0 guidelines for appropriate levels of text contrast.
- Body text: All text should have contrast of at least 4.5:1 (AA), except headers and incidental text.
- Headers and large text: should have contrast of at least 3:1.
- Incidental text: Hidden, inactive, or purely decorative text has no contrast requirement.
- Use tools like Contrast to ensure designs meet requirements.
Colorblindness
Colors should be used that are still visually distinguishable to those with forms of colorblindness. This is most important for non-grayscale text and icons in success and error states, as red-green colorblindness is the most common impairment.
- Always use text and/or iconography to distinguish states, in addition to color.
- Choose colors with different intensities that can be distinguished even when viewed in grayscale.
- Use tools like Colorblindly to view content as it would appear to those with various forms of colorblindness.
Browser Scaling & Mobile Web
Fabric does not explicitly have support for mobile devices or fully responsive scaling.
- All pages should support a minimum width of ≤1080px.
- Page should support browser zoom to ≥200% before text becomes illegible, or interface becomes unusable.
Assistive Devices
Fabric does not currently have explicit support for assistive devices such as screen readers. However, these should be taken into consideration when creating or updating interface components.
